In the nineteenth century, in Spain, a gypsy woman, Carmen, challenged the rules in Seville. The character, created by Georges Bizet, questioned the society of the time, combining features like femininity, intelligence, courage and sensuality.

Carmen was a woman of many facets, who fought intensely for life and freedom, facing the prejudices of a conservative society.
In cigarette factory in Seville, two women start fighting and are brought to the center of the square. One is the gypsy Carmen, which is under the supervision of Sergeant Sergeant Don José, despite saying is in love with his childhood friend Micaela is immediately seduced by Carmen and releases it, letting it escape. Carmen is a day dancing in the tavern Lillas Pastia when bullfighter Escamillo enters the famous singing the aria "toreador", and tries to seduce Carmen. But she is waiting for Don José, to convince him to leave the army to join a group of smugglers.

The superior officer, Lieutenant Zuniga, also reveals love with Carmen. Dom José fighting and he is forced to join the contabandistas. But Carmen soon tires of him and begins to engage with Escamillo. Don José, full of jealousy, mortally hurt Carmen, the door to the bullring where Escamillo stands. Aware of his act, then surrenders to the police.
